The Plaza de Catalunya is a popular square in downtown Barcelona. This spring day invited many, including several young families, to enjoy the beautiful weather. Watching the children run through the massive flocks of pigeons, listening to their squeals, and seeing the emotion of pure joy on their faces gave me almost as much pleasure as the children received doing it.
I adore this picture because every time I look at the little girl, her innocence evokes a different thought and emotion. Sometimes, she just makes me smile, and I am reminded of the peace that I felt that day. Another time, I might become melancholy as I think about how childhood innocence can be as fleeting as these birds. Then I always find myself saying a small prayer for her, asking that she be allowed to hold on to hers for as long as possible. I call this photo “Joy of the Child.”
